I think if there is a single message to be taken from this week's events it is that EVERYONE'S participation is required to make this country of ours work. No matter what our personal political bent, it is incumbent upon us all to remain informed and active in our support of disAbility rights and ALL human rights. It is important to hold our elected officials accountable to ensure that they stay focused on the work of the people, all people, the citizens who depend on them. Now, more than ever, this is the path we must travel, together. Let's seize this opportunity and push on.
This is an exceptional week for all Americans and with that in mind I offer a word for the week: LOVE.
On Monday, we marked Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday with the annual Day of Service. Citizens, as they do every year, passed a day volunteering in their communities and, we hope, being moved to volunteer and become involved more regularly - beyond the single day each year.
Friday, on the steps of the United States Capitol building a new President (our 45th) will take his oath of office and begin a new chapter in our collective history.
All the best, always...Christopher Salazar
