In our ongoing effort to lead the next generation of support and services for people living with disabilities, Values Into Action is expanding its services through Supports Brokering and by collaborating with The Institute on Disabilities at Temple University and other key organizations on the Person-Driven Services Demonstration Project.
Supports brokering is a dedicated, personalized service that equips people managing their Participant-Directed Supports (PDS) with critical and practical information and guidance by pairing with a trained Supports Broker. The broker’s function is to primarily provide assistance with, training and coaching on employer-related functions, planning, and budgeting. Supports Brokers also serve people by helping them to identify and access community resources and services, and to coach them to efficiently utilize and maximize their traditional (paid) and natural supports and networks. Our goal is firmly establish Supports Brokering as a highly utilized service and thought it help Values make good on its promise of supporting people to lead and create lives of their own accord and choice.
Underway since summer, we have steadily made progress with our partners in building and training a team of Supports Brokers and in recruiting several families to participate in this innovative project. We are still looking to train more qualified individuals to be Supports Brokers and to enroll more families in the project. The PDS project is supported by a grant from the Pennsylvania Developmental Disabilities Council.
Leading our work is Javier G. Salazar who will be serving as Service Director for Supports Brokering. Javier previously served as a Development Director and is based in the Media office. Please contact Javier with any questions on Supports Brokering, the PDS Project, or if you are interested in becoming a broker.
